Weekly Sports report – Week 10 - Hilary
W/C: Monday 11th March
Hockey
The 1st XI and U14As both came off second best in their respective National Cup Quarterfinal - the 1st XI going down 5-1 against the Perse and the U14As 4-1 against Felsted. All the best to the U16As for their Semi Final clash vs Hurstpierpoint tomorrow.
Saturday saw all teams take to the field for a challenging and highly competitive block against Rugby School. Well done to all teams for their gutsy performances this weekend. A special mention to the U14As for their 2-1 victory. Managing to put Wednesday’s loss behind them, the 1st XI recovered and put together an outstanding performance to topple a strong Rugby XI, 5 - 3, in what can only be described as the match of the weekend.
House Hockey – Well done to all those who participated in Junior Interhouse Hockey on Saturday.
Congratulations to Wilkinson for winning the U12 competition and Maltby for winning the U13s.
Netball
House netball took place on Monday with 50 girls taking part (20 of who haven’t chosen Netball as their sport to play this term). Maltby started the tournament in winning fashion with a 20-0 win and continued this streak, finally beating Chavasse 6-5 in the final showdown!
Football
Wednesday 13th March
Girls 1st XI made the short trip up to Headington for their first of two local fixtures for the week. A last gasp equaliser from Issy Martin meant the game finished 1-1.
Saturday 16th March
Vs St Edwards
1st XI Boys – Yet another close encounter for the 1st XI. A first 1st XI goal for Alex Maynard was not enough to avoid a 2-1 defeat.
1st XI Girls – The fixture took centre stage at St Edwards, on their showpiece field. The girls made things very difficult for an unbeaten Teddies XI. After keeping them at bay for ¾ of the game, the opposition managed to breakdown a stoic Magdalen defence. Well Done to captain Ella Tarin and Honor Murray for their endless running and commitment. St Edwards 2 – 0 MCS
2nd XI – Another slow start cost the 2nd XI. An Elliott Arbibe penalty was Magdalen’s only goal of the game.
3rd XI – St Edwards were a strong and dominant side that won most of the physical battles across the pitch. Teddies managed the game well to finish 4-2 victors.
U16 A – Top, played bottom of the league. . MCS the favourites although Teddies were a tough opposition. Their Goalkeeper made some outstanding saves to keep the game close. A further penalty from Ilia Milkovic and a second half finish from Ethan McMillian was enough to win the game comfortable visitors, MCS winning 4 – 1.

Conditions where light but there was good racing in both fleets, the Fireflies had 7 races and was dominated by Edward White Belcher and Alex Money from MCS who won every race, 2nd Equal two crews from St Edwards.
The Slow Handicap also had some tight racing, 6 races were run with races being won by 3 different teams, in the end Cokethorpe won with Euan Roach in 2nd followed by Luke Knezevic in 3rd..
Thanks to everyone from all the schools who helped run the event.
The team of the week is the boys U16A football team.
