Cricket

The U13A’s produced another strong performance on Monday, beating John Hampden Grammar School by 8 wickets. Captain Teddy Purushothaman stood out with bat and ball. The U12A’s were also in action on Monday and despite showing great resilience to take it to the final over, the team lost by 5 wickets. Some valuable lessons learned and plenty of positives to take away.

The U17’s, made up purely of L6th pupils played St Benedict’s 1st XI on Wednesday in a high scoring and thoroughly entertaining match. The visitors batted well to reach 165 from their 20 overs. Alex Laird (84) and Louis Prestedge (51) batted brilliantly to steer the team within reach of victory, but a couple of late wickets left Ben Newbury requiring 2 from the final ball of the game – which he dispatched to the boundary, much to the delight of everyone involved.

The 1st XI played Wellington College on Friday evening, despite the weather’s best efforts. After a brilliant fight back in the field to reduce the visitors to 126 all out, the team fell 6 runs short of progressing to the Quarter Final stage of the National T20 Cup.

Nine teams were in action against Bloxham on Saturday, which resulted in the first clean sweep of the season. Julian Laird took 4 wickets on debut in the 1st XI and Barney Carey scored a well-constructed half century as the 1st XI won by 90 runs. The 2nd & 3rd XI both cruised to victory – Raoul Patel top scoring in the 2nds and Tom Thanassoulis scored 50 not out in the 3rds. Rob Lecane hit an impressive half century in the U15A’s, who won by 126 runs and the 14A’s won by 7 wickets – both sides finish the first half of term with a 100% win record, as do the U15B’s who sealed a 4 wicket win in the last over, after Freddie Walton had picked up 6 wickets earlier in the day. The U13A&B’s produced strong team performances in the morning, sharing the runs and wickets around.
