Sports report – Week 4

Well done to all staff, students and OW’s that ran in the Oxford park run on Saturday. The fastest MCS runner of the day was OW Henry Ramsay, he came third overall, while U6th student Kartik Kishore was the fastest current MCS student finishing in a time of 20 minutes and 18s. Seb Gardner was the fastest junior finishing in 21 minutes and 19s.

The senior badminton team had a particularly tight contest against an experienced squad from Cheltenham College, the whole tie went down to the last set, which Cheltenham college won, winning 9-7 in a fantastic afternoon of badminton.

Girls Hockey

For the first time this term, all 4 girls hockey teams had a fixture on Wednesday, with the 1st XI playing Bradfield in the 2nd round of the National Cup and the 2nd, 3rd & 4th XIs facing Bloxham.

Unfortunately none of the teams managed to secure a win, but there were great improvements made during these matches and it was brilliant to see the 4th XI playing their first match for MCS and thoroughly enjoying the experience.

The 1st XI now move into the Plate competition where they face St Edward’s in the next round.

The weekend rugby block welcomed two schools back onto the fixture list. The lower school took on Shiplake, with the Senior teams taking on Warwick.

A tough contest at U12’s brought out some fantastic play with a win and a draw versus Shiplake. The U13’s enjoyed a morning of running rugby, with another two great performances.

Weather conditions in the afternoon influenced the style of play, resulting in limitations to the free-flowing style of rugby we have been used to seeing so far this term. A special mention to the U14A team with a brilliant performance versus Warwick.
