Sports Report – Week 1

Well done to everybody who got involved with all of the sporting activities last week. It was lovely to see you all out training in your PE and games lessons as well as your extra-curricular clubs and activities.

At the weekend the MCS sailors were back out on the water at Farmoor reservoir as well as our 1st team and U16 badminton teams taking the court against Bromsgrove school, with the 1st team narrowly losing out 9-7.

We also had 27 rowers from U4th and above racing at the Isis Sculls. Four of the MCS quads came in the top 7 crews across the entire day. The J18 quad of Dexter Twycross, Alex Russell, Alex Underwood and Peter Crossley won their event, recording the 3rd fastest time of the day. Alex Wood and Peter Crossley won their J16 and J17 single sculls events. Medals were awarded to these crews, and they should collect them from Mrs Panzer.

We also saw the official return of rugby to MCS, with a fantastic launch of the first ‘MCS Rugby Club Day’. Starting with the Lower School Touch Games and leading into Middle and Upper School fixtures with Gordon’s School. Over half of both the Second and Third Form attended the first Saturday Rugby offering of the term, played in fantastic conditions on Merton Field. Well done to all those who took part! The afternoon saw the U14A, U15A and 1st XV take on their first competitive fixtures in over 19 months. A strong performance from the U14A and U15A teams lead to wins, 5-2 and 17-15. While the 1st XV narrowly lost to a strong Gordon’s outfit, 21-12.

Thanks to staff, parents and pupils for a brilliant start to the term!

This year staff will be putting forward a team of the week, which will include players from all teams representing the school.

Also many congratulations and well done to Dr Bebbington who completed the Brighton Marathon this weekend in a fantastic time of 3hours and 41 minutes, (do join him on Thursday lunchtime for running club if you are interested in running, or improving your health and fitness!) and also well done to Mrs Smith who completed the Blenheim Triathlon this weekend.

We also had the YOW curry and sports fixtures this weekend, where OW’s from the past two years came back to enjoy some football and netball against each other as well as enjoying a chance to catch up over a curry in the dining hall.

Well done to all for a great start to the term, and I look forward to seeing how you all get on this week.
